My First "Technical" Ride
I remember the day clearly like it was yesterday. The sun was shining, the wind was calm, and some guys were riding their skate boards in the old pool. There I was atop the largest dirt hill in the park, facing down the steep slope as I stared at the pipe sticking out of the ground at the end of the trail at the bottom of the hill. Being an amateur and scared sh**less when I imagine myself hitting the pipe at the toe of the mound, I hesitated. The loser I was riding with that day flew by the obstacle like it wasn't there, making me look stupid for standing there. After a few moments, I figured f**k it! My adrenaline said GO while my conscience said DON'T DO IT! I found myself speeding down the slope, wide-eyed and panicking. As the pipe got closer, the faster the every obscenity in the book flashed through my mind. I lost control of the bike and started to hit every large bump on the way. I squinted my eyes as I was lucky enough to get bumped about a foot off of the way of the pipe. After leveling off, I stopped and sighed with relief. The horror was over. I had just survived my first "technical" part of the ride. WHEW!
