Glenn Spring Loop |
Also see the Big Bend National Park Official Site.
| Glenn Spring Loop is the one of
the most lonely areas in Big Bend National Park. Depending on the
number of stops you make this 35 mile un-paved road (some un-maintained)
can take from half a day to a full day to complete. Parts of this 4WD road
are un-maintained and therefore not visited by most park visitors. In the past we have seen Mountain Lion tracks at the edge of the
spring. Left: This picture of Elephant Tusk peak were taken November 4, 2000 from Black Gap Road, near Glenn Spring at sunset. |
|
| You are going to start from Glenn
Spring and make a counter clockwise loop following Black Gap Road around
Tally Mountain. While on Black Gap Road you will see
Dominguez Mountain and Elephant Tusk to the West and Talley Mountain to
the East. You will cross several creeks and climb and descend many
hills over this rocky, usually hard packed double track road. A
short distance into the ride there is a great downhill section with some
very nice views. We have been know to take the truck to this hill
and use it as a lift back to the top so we can ride it more than
once. Half way up this
hill is where I took the sunset pictures at the top of this page.
Black Gap Road meets the river road after about 8.5 miles. Take a left at the river road and follow it to Mariscal Mine. The river road meets Glenn Spring Road and takes you back to Glenn Spring. |
