Paybacks

     When the call-load at the Police Department allows, officers are encouraged to workout. We have a great gym for this purpose. A few weeks ago, two of our officers who are certified Police Cyclists, decided to take the police bikes out for a ride instead of hitting the gym. This was about 3 in the afternoon. As required by the department, the two officers were wearing their police bike helmets, (they're marked POLICE in big white letters). They were riding down a four lane road, two abreast, and as far to the right as practicable. Good role models! A car began to follow them. The driver of the car, began honking the horn at them. The driver must have felt the bikes were in his way. The two officers kept an eye on the car. Finally, the driver made his move and began to pass the bikes. The driver got into the left lane next to the officers and began shouting obscenities. Can you believe it? He said something to the affect, "Would you please get out of the road". Now you know this is a family newsletter, so I sugar coated it a bit. After a one sided conversation, the driver took off. He was nice enough to wave as he left. The only problem was he only used one finger to wave. The officers got the license number and a real good description of the driver. It was getting time to put up the bikes and get to work, so they headed in to the Police Department. After they were changed they decided to give the driver a visit. They arrived at the address from the license, and sure enough, there was the car. They identified the driver (who had no idea these were the two on the bikes). The driver was issued a Class C Citation for Disorderly Conduct by language. This is similar to a traffic ticket, with a fine of up to $500.00. The two officers got into their patrol cars and drove off into the sunset. I'm sure they both had ear to ear grins on their faces.
