Tisdale/Ingrham

This is a work in progress.

Nathan Tisdale is the great grandfather of Irmalee Ingrham.  He served with the Army of Tennessee Louisiana Division during the War Between the States.  He was working in Algiers Orleans, west across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, Louisiana as a ship builder when the war broke out.   He joined the Algiers Gaurds hoping to be stationed near his brothers in Virginia.   He was severely wounded and lost his right eye in the siege of Mobile, Alabama.   The Louisiana Division started the war with over 5,000 men.  Nathan served from 1861 to 1865.  When Nathan was released by federal troups in Meridian, Mississippi after the defeat of the Confederate States of America there were only 516 men in the division.  He elected to be buried with his army unit at the time of his death in 1901.

Army of Tennessee Louisiana Division tomb in Metairee Cemetery

New Orleans, Louisiana.  The statue of the officer on top of the tomb

is Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston who was killed at the

battle of Shiloh.  Notable officers buried here are Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard, who

ordered the first shot fired on Fort Sumpter.  Additionally, Col. Charles Didier

Dreux and Richard "Dick" Taylor are also buried here. Dreux was the first

Confederate officer killed in the war, and Taylor was the son of President

Zachary Taylor.

This is the engraving on Nathan's burial vault.  Like so many other

men who saw combat it was his wish to be buried with the men he

served with rather than at a family site.

General Johnston must have been greatly admired by his men.

This memorial covers the vault where he is buried.

Following is a plaque listing the battles fought by the Louisiana Division.

I regret I didn't get a picture of the full list.  I will try to complete the list

through research.
