January 2009 - Linda and I camp at the Davis Mountains State Park in our Jayco Melbourne RV and ride the 1978 Honda Goldwing GL1000 motorcycle in the mountains. We also did some hiking in the mountains around the state park.
The state park campground as seen from one of the mountain trails.
Views of the famous Indian Lodge built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's. It's one of the many attractions in the area. Built in the style of an Indian Pueblo it is a remarkable structure to study.
McDonald Observatory is world renowned for its view of the heavens. Here are some pics from afar and from the road leading to it. We didn't visit the facility this trip but we have good memories of a trip we did with Nolan and Kaden when we sat in on one of their interpretive lectures and toured the huge telescope installations.
Broad vistas and wide open spaces are eye candy for us.
A cold front stalled in the mountains to the north east of us. The clouds seemed to hang at the edge of the mountains in the distance all day.
Deer were plentiful and unperturbed by our visit to their environment.
Linda and I had lunch one day at the Black Bear Restaurant in the Indian Lodge and then enjoyed a cup of coffee at one of the lodge's lounging spots where the quiet surroundings encourage relaxation.
There's no better way to see the Davis Mountains than from the saddle of a bike.
On one of our rides we went to Alpine for lunch.
